The Role

The Executive Director of Finance (s151) plays a crucial role in achieving our bold ambitions, providing strong financial management and oversight.
As well as providing commercial leadership and guidance regarding allocation of resources, service delivery, financial management, risk management and transformation; you will work collaboratively with members and our corporate leadership team to deliver our strategic priorities.
Whilst we have a balanced budget, like many authorities, with demand increasing, we do have some challenges ahead. We continue to deliver good services through our robust financial management, but we will look to you to find opportunities to transform, change and innovate to help equip us for the future. We will also look to you for growth and income, as much as we do savings. This role is critical to our future and will enable our council to do more and ensure we can continue to deliver for those that need us most.
About you
We know that to achieve our future ambitions and respond to the challenges we face; we are going to have to be bolder and do things differently to ensure that we deliver excellent services and are financially sustainable.
We are looking for an inspirational and dynamic leader who is comfortable challenging the norm and who has demonstrable experience in achieving sustained improvement and outstanding outcomes.
As the Section 151 Officer, you will have considerable senior finance experience in a local government setting to continue to develop and implement our medium-term financial strategy and organisational financial management culture.
Crucially, you will be highly collaborative with a clear, strategic mindset and outstanding communication skills, coupled with a high degree of political acumen to enable you to ‘hold your own’ in high-level interactions.
